Table---Percentage of adults in seven Australian cities taking public transport when going to work or study in 1996 and 2006.



The table graph displays the proportion of adults in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Hobart and Canberra taking public transport when going to work or study in 1996 and 2006. 

In 1996,  Sydney had the largest rate of 23% which adults taking public transport when going to work or study, which was followed by Adelaide (14%), Perth was listed the third (13%), Brisbane and Canberra tied for fourth (12%), Melbourne and Hobart have the minimum figure (11%).

In 2006, much more Sydney adults taking public transport, the figure increased to 26%, Adelaide was the next (17%) and Brisbane ranked the third (16%). Perth, Melbourne, Hobart and Canberra came last separately with 15%, 12%, 9% and 8%.

In term of percentage in change from 1996 to 2006, the number was 33%, 21%, 16%, 13%, 9%, -18% and -33% respectively in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart and Canberra.

Overall, It is obvious that almost cities saw an upward trend during the decade (1996-2006) to the percentage of adults taking the public transport except for Hobart and Canberra.
