Spent on modern buildings or old buildings? IELTS Writing P2

Too much money is spent on looking after and repairing old buildings. Some people think this money should be spent on building new modern buildings. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?

Today, Increasingly a number of governments join the action which protects the historical buildings. such as the temple or historical remains. And it is money-consuming that we need consume a lot of money and resources to looking after and repairing the old buildings. But some people do not think about this,  they deem the money and resources should be spent on the modern buildings, especially on the skyscrapers. In my opinion, I deem the financial aids should not only provide for the construction of modern buildings.

Obviously, development of modern buildings would bring some benefits to us. Such as solving the issue of city space. For example, HongKong, it is famously advanced city that facing the problem of not enough living space and business land. Therefore, HongKong government began to build more and more high-level departments and skyscrapers for meeting the requirement of citizens. But at the same time, they did not stop funding the ancient buildings since they deem it is similarly important that protects their historical buildings.

But the development of modern buildings would not only offer the benefits to us also brings more and more problems and pollution. Such as traffic jam, air pollution or light pollution and so on. It is not like the old building that is a building style about environment-friendly. Compare with the modern buildings, traditional buildings are utilized natural and renewable resources for constructing rather than consuming a plenty of raw resources and generates lots of greenhouse gas.

Besides, the old buildings would stimulate the development of tourism, which function is not be included in modern buildings. For instance, the city of Hangzhou which is the famous travel city of China. And it is well-known in the world that Hangzhou government attract tourists by protecting the historical buildings, which acquires great achievements for protection of historical remains and development of the local economy. At the same time, the environment of Hangzhou does not be damaged.

In conclusion, we are facing plenty of challenges about the development of economy and land resources, but we could not forget the importance of the historical buildings which is a significant part of our civilization.
