Imported food IELTS Writing P2
Today a great deal of food travels thousands of miles from farms to consumers. Some people think it would be better for our environment and economy if people only ate locally produced food. To what extent do you think the advantages outweigh disadvantages?
At present, a wide range of food that has been imported from a lot of countries. Some people deem it is a positive approach to protect the local environment and promote the local economy. In my opinion, I agree on this point, and I think those advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
Firstly, it is well-known that imported food is a trend of globalization. It is not only better for the local economy, but it is also better for the countries of agriculture exporting, such as those developing countries. Those countries do not have developed industry system, so to be an agriculture exporter which is the best choice for improving GDP.
Secondly, importing food has much more significant merit which saves the city space. It is an obvious truth that the most countries suffer the developing problem of space-restriction. They do not have enough land space to ensure the requirement for development if they insist on local farming. For example, Japan, it is a small country which does not have adequate farmland and water resources. Japanese abandon the model of local farming in 1959. On the other hand, they began to focus on the imported food, which would save approximately 85% land space to developing infrastructures.
However, Imported food also has some drawback. One of the most significant issues is air-pollution since we need to consume the fossil fuel to transport it. So lots of greenhouse gas would be generated on the sea, which makes global warming.
Finally, I deem the imported food has much more benefits than demerits. Besides, In my view, the problem of food and development that more important than the problem of contamination.
